One Big Grande Boca Book Club Returns For 3rd Year!
**RESCHEDULED SATURDAY JANUARY 14, 2017** | 2:00pm | Auditorium
$150 Sponsor | $50 Reserved Seating | Free General Admission after January 1st
OBGBBC (One Big Grande Boca Book Club), modeled after a nation-wide concept held in many cities across America, will be held in Boca Grande for the third year. This program serves the mission of bringing together an entire community with a common read. There is nothing else quite like it on this island and you will not want to miss it!
Michael Ruhlman, nationally known author, chef, and TV celebrity, will be our guest with his book, The Soul of A Chef, as the featured book. His topic embraces the culture of food and chefs in America today. Anthony Bourdain, writing for the New York Times, describes the book as “a hold-your-breath-while-you-turn-the-page thriller that’s also an anthropological study of the culture of cooking.”
The culminating celebration will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 2:00pm in the auditorium at the Boca Grande Community Center. Michael Ruhlman will give a lecture, followed by a book signing in the Houghton Room. There will be activities associated with the reading, as well as interesting conversations and opportunities for intergenerational book-centered discussion. Cooking and food are topics we can all appreciate either as amateur chefs or enthusiastic consumers.
Sponsors are needed to underwrite the costs. Sponsors will receive reserved seating in the auditorium and an invitation to a special event with Mr. Ruhlman. The cost of Sponsorship is $150 per person. Any residual proceeds from this event will benefit the Dee Wheeler Children’s Fund, which supports island families’ participation in children’s programs, including summer camp.
General admission seating will be available in the auditorium or for simulcast viewing in the Woman’s Club room, depending on your arrival time and seat availability.
