Is there something uniquely “American” about American art? How did the founding of this new nation find expression in art? Did the artists follow time-honored aesthetic models, or did they pioneer new styles?
In this series of lectures from the Great Courses Library, view masterpieces through historical, cultural and political contexts. Independent art historian and scholar Professor William Kloss comments on the style, composition and color displayed in each work, which have been chosen to represent a wide array of styles and subjects, from sweeping landscapes to intimate portraits to scenes of everyday life.
