The Search for the Source of the Nile
Candice Millard, Best-Selling Author & Historian
Wednesday, January 4 | 4:30pm | Auditorium
Candice Millard tells the story of the harrowing journey to find the source of the Nile. For millenia the location of the Nile River’s headwaters was shrouded in mystery. In the 19th century, Richard Burton and John Hanning Speke set out to claim the prize for England. From the start the two men clashed as they endured tremendous hardships, illness, and constant setbacks, relying on the help of Sidi Mubarak Bombay, a formerly enslaved man who was their porter, translator, guide, nurse, and trusted friend.
Candice Millard is the author of four New York Times best- selling books. Her first book, The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt’s Darkest Journey, a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection and a Book Sense Pick, won the William Rockhill Nelson Award, was a finalist for the Quill Awards, and has been published in multiple foreign editions.
