LSVT BIG and LOUD® is a specialized therapy program that has been shown to be an effective movement and speech treatment for individuals with Parkinson disease (PD) and other neurological conditions. Named for Mrs. Lee Silverman, the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) was developed in 1987. For movement issues, therapists ask patients to move in BIG or amplified ways, whether they’re walking, buttoning shirts and pants, getting keys or change out of pockets, or writing. For speech, the focus is on a single goal: LOUD speaking. Learn about the research behind BIG and LOUD therapy, when to start treatment, what to expect during treatment, and how to have this conversation with your physician.
