Lincoln in the Bardo, by George Saunders
Presented by Sally Brust and Hilari Fix
This experimental work by American writer Saunders is his first full-length novel and was awarded the Booker Prize in 2017. The novel takes place over the course of a single evening during and after the death of Abraham Lincoln’s son, Willie, and deals with the president’s grief at his loss. The story is set in the bardo, a Tibetan term for the intermediate space between life and rebirth. It is a highly original, transcendent and moving work.
