Culture and Place from One of the Four Corners of the Earth
Saturday, November 3, 2018 | 4:30pm | Admission: General $35 | Reserved $60 | Sponsor $150
Zita Cobb, Canadian Businesswoman and Social Entrepreneur
Zita Cobb is the CEO of Shorefast, a registered charity whose most significant projects to date include Fogo Island Inn, Fogo Island Arts, and Fogo Island Shop. An eighth-generation Fogo Islander, Zita finished highschool on Fogo Island before her university education and subsequent career drew her away from the remote fishing community to the high-tech industry where she took on increasingly senior executive financial positions. Best known for her work with JDS Uniphase, Zita’s career brought opportunity for travel where she saw first-hand that rural places around the world were in great peril. In 2001, Zita retired from her business career and established Shorefast along with her brothers, Alan and Anthony, to help build economic and cultural resilience for Fogo Island. Today, Shorefast runs a holistic set of charitable initiatives and has spearheaded 3 social businesses that return all surpluses to the charity for reinvestment into the community.
